Many people with Type 2 diabetes take Actos, a prescription medication, to control blood sugar. However, prolonged use of this popular drug can cause bladder cancer as well as several other side effects. A class action lawsuit against the manufacturer, Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., is underway. Consumers taking the Actos medication should contact one of the actos attorneys handling the lawsuit against the Japan-based pharmaceutical company.
The lawsuit charges that Takeda Pharmaceutical concealed studies that showed a correlation between Actos and bladder cancer after prolonged use of the drug. Contacting actos attorneys is important for consideration of compensation for any harm the drug has caused. The United States FDA approved Actos in 1999. The actos attorneys lawsuit states that Takeda Pharmaceutical studied Actos on male and female rats before the FDA approval date and found that male rats developed tumors from the drug. Takeda hid the results of this study to circumvent a delay in obtaining the FDA approval.
The actos attorneys lawsuit also states that in addition to the study with rats, Takeda researchers performed another study that found higher occurrences of bladder cancer from Actos, compared to other treatments to control blood sugar. The lawsuit contends that anyone taking the drug for over 12 months has a 40 percent chance of acquiring bladder cancer. If you have taken this drug for over 12 months, and have developed bladder cancer, you should contact actos attorneys to see if you are entitled to join the lawsuit.
The United States FDA has regulated that new labels must warn people about the chance of getting bladder cancer when it is used over a year. Germany and France no longer allow the drug in their countries. Before taking Actos, you should discuss it with your doctor. If you have taken it in the past, and you have signs of bladder cancer, you need to see your doctor and then talk with actos attorneys. Some side effects associated with Actos include extreme fatigue, swelling in the face, lower legs, feet and fingers, chest pain, weight gain, irregular heartbeat, trouble breathing, shortness of breath and dilated neck veins. You should consult with your doctor if you have any of these symptoms.
