How to Find a Good Attorney After a DUI

Criminal dui attorney

After you have been pulled over for suspicion of DUI, finding a good attorney is the logical next step. You want the best DUI attorney, as DUI is a serious charge that has serious implications. Having a DUI on your record can destroy your life, as there is a negative social stigma attached to the charge. As such, one who is charged with DUI should immediately find a DUI attorney.

Interestingly, DUI laws in Maryland are not the same as DUI laws in Ohio. Every DUI lawyer knows the ins and outs of DUI law, but every state has different laws. For instance, Ohio has an implied consent law, which means if you refuse to submit to a chemical test, you can be subject to a fine and automatic license suspension. An important fact to point out is that breathalyzer tests, blood tests and urine tests must all be properly administered or else they could be inadmissable in court.

There are two people in Ohio who share the state record of having 20 OVI convictions. Generally, once someone is a repeat offender, that person could pay huge fines, have his or her license permanently taken away, and even serve serious jail time. For the most part, if you are convicted of OVI, which is what DUI is called in Ohio, you may have to pay a fine ranging from $250 to $1,000.

There are 44,789 people in Ohio who have five or more OVI convictions, according to the Ohio Department of Public Safety. Those people ostensibly focused on finding a good lawyer, as is suggested for people who get pulled over for DUI. Driving under the influence is a serious charge, but doesn’t have to mean your life is over if you are charged with the crime. You should work on finding a good attorney, and trust that attorney to know the laws and help you out.
