Did you know that Rochester has been named the snowiest city in the U.S.? Holding this title is a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how fond you are of the winter. At least it can be said that winters in Rochester are never boring. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find yourself with nothing to do whether it’s a Monday morning, or a Friday night. Here are three of our top favorite Rochester events for the winter.
1. Rochester Art Museum: The Memorial Art Gallery
When it’s warm and sunny out, it’s hard to convince ourselves that going inside is the best option. Now, though, it’s positively welcoming. The Rochester Museum of Art is located on University Avenue and welcomes visitors interested in viewing their extensive collection which includes pieces from Rembrandt to Guanyin. Every Thursday night is half priced admission, and visitors can snack on tapas while listening to live music.
2. Rochester Public Market Events: Holiday Market
Throughout the year Rochester’s nationally ranked public market holds multiple events. One perfect for the winter season is the holiday market, which will run December 1st, 8th and 15th. Not only will vendors be selling holiday foods, crafts, decorations, art, wreaths and more, but there will also be free horse-drawn sleigh rides for children, and the annual holiday cookie contest. Get a cup of hot chocolate and finish up your gift shopping here!
3. Lakeside Winter Celebration
If you have lake effect snow, why not have lake effect fun? The annual Lakeside Winter Celebration takes place every year at Ontario State Park. This family event will charm you with its snowshoe lessons, Snow Sculpture Contest, and Wine Festival for the adults. It’s a great way to enjoy the long arm of winter, and this year the celebration will fall right before Valentine’s day. Grab your date and have a romantic day at the lake.
