When a boiler service takes place at someone’s home, a resident doesn’t need to be around. However, if the homeowner is unaware of the functions that the boiler technician is performing, it may be in the homeowner’s best interest to stick around and watch.
Boiler services always begin with a visual inspection of the boiler unit. Technicians start by looking to see if your boiler, and its pipes, are properly attached.
Then, they will do the same process with the connecting insulation.
At this point, boiler technicians typically look at the inside of the boiler for leaks, distress, and damage. In the UK, inspection hatches are mandatory, so the inner workings of the boiler are easily accessible. In other countries, it may take longer to open up the inside of the boiler’s mechanical unit.
Following the second step, the boiler technician will remove and check individual parts for damage. After this, they will manually clean each component to ensure there is no grime or obstructions.
The technician will conduct a combustion analysis test once the parts are re-assembled into the boiler unit. This test checks the ratio between Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide and will show if the appliance is boiling efficiently.
Lastly, the boiler technicians check the flue to see how well it takes air. This test checks if any other chemicals or gasses are cycling into the air ducts.
Boiler services usually take around 30 minutes to complete, and if your boiler has a history of problems or issues, it may take longer, and additional checks may occur.
