Satisfy Your Palate With Some Hummus

Posted on July 18, 2013 by admin

Sabra hummus

Hummus, meaning chickpeas in Arabic, is a dip or spread that is becoming more popular in the United States. Hummus dips are generally made from mashed or pureed chickpeas, and they sometimes include other ingredients such as roasted red peppers, lemon juice, or roasted garlic. In fact, roasted garlic hummus dip is one of the more popular varieties to either make or buy, as the flavor and healthy nutrition facts attract many consumers.

Hummus consumption is on the rise in the United States because it is seen as a healthy, tasty food option. Looking at the nutrition facts on the side of packaged hummus or online while looking up hummus dip recipes, one can see that different varieties contain healthy amounts of protein, dietary fiber, calcium, iron, vitamin B6, amino acids, and methionine, just to name a few. Many different types also contain no saturated fat or cholesterol, making them heart healthy options.

While hummus has always been a common food to see in Middle Eastern society, it became widely consumed in the United States only recently. While the first ever recorded recipe of hummus dates back to the 13th century, it did not make a popular debut in the United States until the late 1990s and early 2000s as the end of the Lebanese Civil War brought an Armenian migration to the country. In fact, nearly one in five Americans have hummus in their households today.

Whether you are looking for roasted red pepper hummus dip or roasted garlic hummus dip, it can be a huge hit for whatever event you are buying it for. With only fine, healthy main ingredients, your dip will attract many different people. Even though roasted garlic hummus dip is one of the more popular kinds, you may be able to find a variety that you believe you will enjoy the most.

Is it expensive to buy in stores? Looking online I see that it is pretty easy to make yourself, but I do not have the time for it. I just do not want to spend an arm and a leg at the store buying it already made.
