What is cross docking, and why is it important? Even before answering that question, it is always important to know the difference between shipping relationships. Most of these relationships have 3 important goals that you would want to achieve.
The relationship should first reduce your costs. Secondly, the relationship should minimize damage. Lastly, the shipping relationship should reach the end customer in the shortest time possible.

So, what is the difference between cross docking and transloading?
Cross-docking means that you have a container ship that can carry multiple cargo containers (or other ships). Transloading, on the other hand, is when you move cargo between two different types of vessels.
If you are planning on cross-docking, then you need to make sure that you have enough space for all the ships to dock. You will also need to make sure that there is not too much traffic going through the port.
To sum up, cross-docking is an efficient way to ship goods from one place to another. It is usually done because it reduces the cost of transportation.
